It’s 1977 and high school drop-out Eddie Adams is discovered bussing tables in a nightclub by porn director Jack Horner, who transforms him into overnight adult-film sensation Dirk Diggler. Boogie Nights is Paul Thomas Anderson’s second film and first hit. One that wears its influences on its sleeve, from the Robert Altman-style sprawling network of characters to the opening sequence, a three-minute tracking shot which pays homage to Scorsese’s Goodfellas.
